From carving the cuttlefish to casting the design in sterling silver expect to be excited as you watch my demonstrations of cuttlefish casting at the Lost Trades Fair on the 7th and 8th March 2020 at Bendigo Racecourse.
This year the Lost Trades Fair is moving to Bendigo, so make the most of the March long weekend and start planning your visit to the Golden City of Victoria.
The Lost Trades Fair is such an action packed weekend, I hear only great things about the artisans from the visitors and receive the most wonderful compliments throughout the weekend. I see people coming back again and again to my demonstrations as they’re mesmerised by the whole experience from carving to casting.
You can expect to fill all your senses when you see my cuttlefish casting demonstrations there’s the heat from the gas torch, the smell of burning cuttlefish, the sight of the glistening molten silver as it’s poured into the cuttlefish mould, and the opportunity to touch the raw cast prior to me working on it to produce the unique designs of my handmade artisan jewellery. I’ll also have an exhibition of my recent work on display for sale.
The Lost Trades Fair will be featured on Better Homes & Gardens this Friday 21 September 2018 on Channel 72 at 7pm. Please check your local TV guide for details.
I had the pleasure of meeting Joh Griggs and Jason Hodges from Better Homes and Gardens as I demonstrated cuttlefish casting in Kyneton at the Lost Trades Fair this year. Did I make it on the show? We’ll find out tomorrow night.
Please contact me to arrange a visit to my studio or subscribe to my blog for an invitation to my open studio in November each year.
If you’re interested in watching a demonstration of cuttlefish casting, I’ll be providing plenty of opportunities for you to see the fun and learn about the technique at this years Lost Trades Fair in Kyneton on the Labour Day weekend, 10th & 11th March 2018.
Expect to fill all your senses during a demonstration of the technique – there’s the smell of the burning cuttlefish bone, the heat of the gas, the noise of the torch, and the excitement of watching as the silver becomes molten and is carefully poured into the cuttlefish bone mould.
I’ll be demonstrating the carving and casting across both days, I’ll also have an exhibition of recent work available for sale, please come and say hi.

Busy with last minute preparations for ‘Refined’, my exhibition of contemporary jewellery opening on the 2nd January 2016. See you at Antipodes Bookshop Gallery (in the downstairs gallery) in Sorrento after 2pm on Saturday!
An exhibition of my contemporary statement jewellery opening the 2nd January 2016 and running throughout January at Antipodes Bookshop Gallery, Sorrento.
‘Refined’ is an exhibition of jewellery made using the ancient technique of cuttlefish casting. Each piece, be it a pendant or a ring, is refined into an elegant work of art. They have a character all of their own, with a special feature and design that reflects my sense of place, and my relationship to the natural beauty of Australia, from the erosion of our ancient mountains, to the movement of the sea and our oceans that surround the Mornington Peninsula.
All my work is made to the highest standard, the pendants and rings are bold statement pieces, you can expect quality craftsmanship and a unique design. You’ll be sure to find the perfect piece to complement your wardrobe.
I’ll be in the gallery each weekend afternoon talking about the techniques I use and the inspiration behind each work. They’ll be over 60 pieces on display.
I’m hosting another Open Studio over the next two weekends and you’re all welcome to visit. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy my stunning contemporary jewellery in the beautiful surrounds of my McCrae studio and garden. You may choose to witness the fiery cuttlefish casting demonstrations that will be occurring on the weekends, or do some early Christmas shopping. I’m opening my studio as part of the Peninsula Studio Trail open studio weekends.
Please feel welcome to drop in and see my recent contemporary rings and pendants that I am preparing for my next solo show, opening at Antipodes Bookshop Gallery in Sorrento on the 2 January 2016; and not forgetting my colourful lamp worked glass bead jewellery.
I will be demonstrating cuttlefish casting on Sunday afternoons, if you’re interested in attending a demonstration please send me an email and I’ll let you know what times are available.
