About Katrina

Fascinated by the beauty of Australian landscapes, my recent work is a spontaneous creative process of refining raw cuttlefish casts into contemporary jewellery.

My interest in jewellery making started in high school. I discovered I had a natural aptitude for jewellery design and making as I won First place in the Royal Melbourne Show jewellery competition.

Before sitting my final high school exams, I was invited to Canberra for the day to attend an interview at Canberra School of Art. It was a joy to be accepted by the Canberra School of Art Director Udo Sellbach during my interview on the same day.

My work has taken on many forms. At Art School and in the studio I established in 1986, the growing architectural landscape of Canberra inspired my work. Later I produced a series of art jewellery influenced by studies into African Tribal body adornment and travels to Ghana and Mali. See the Retrospective page on my website for some of my previous work.

Since moving to the Mornington Peninsula in 1999, I have been practising the ancient technique of cuttlefish bone casting.
